Artakha was a powerful being from the Matoran Universe.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Brought into being on Spherus Magna, Artakha was one of the earliest creations of the Great Beings, alongside his brother, Karzahni. At some point, Artakha and Karzahni competed for possession of the Mask of Creation, a powerful Kanohi that would permit the bearer to manifest and augment complicated armor or weaponry as well as facilitating in the construction process. Defeating Karzahni in combat, Artakha was awarded the Mask of Creation and granted dominion over an island in the Northern Matoran Universe, though the victory would cost him the respect of his brother.

During this period, the Hand of Artakha would be established by the Great Beings, forming the first organized entity of peace-keepers. At a time when only the realms of Artakha and Karzahni had been constructed, it is widely speculated that Artakha assumed a leadership role within this organization, conveying the will of Mata Nui to the warriors under his command, enabling them to safeguard the Matoran inhabitants of each realm should unforeseen disaster strike. Over the course of its existence, the Hand of Artakha involved itself in a number of peacekeeping endeavors, though its operatives were notably unfettered by the restraints of the Matoran conscience and often achieved their ends through excessively destructive means.

Artahka was later charged with the creation of the first Toa and, as the Great Beings had become concerned with other matters, all future generations of Toa. This experimental process using a combination of the Glatorian species genetic coding and the elemental attributes of the Elemental Lords of Spherus Magna resulted in the creation of Helryx, the first Toa and leader of the Order of Mata Nui organization, which superseded the Hand of Artakha.

Growing increasingly paranoid, the Great Beings also commissioned a dedicated Toa team that would later come to be known as the Toa Mata. Charging Artahka with the construction of these Toa and contracting Helryx to discretely train them; Toa Tahu, Gali, Onua, Pohatu, Kopaka, and Lewa thus came into existence. These six Toa would later go down in Matoran legend as the principle Toa-guardians of the universe, to be summoned only in the most dire of global emergencies, their destiny tied to the continued maintenance of the Great Spirit Mata Nui.

Originally charged with watching over and guiding the fledgling Toa population, Artakha opened the gates of his realm to all Toa, crafting special armor, tools, and masks for any Toa that made the pilgrimage to his island. Once the League of Six Kingdoms grew in prominence and entreated him for similar favors, however, he became more selective over who he made armor for.

In the period following this, Artakha took on commissions, building a wide variety of different machines, weapons, Kanohi, and other such projects. To help in this endeavor, Turaga sent the best of their Matoran to work for him in exchange for his goods. In addition, Artakha also worked to craft the Adaptive Armor and Kanohi Nuva, as well as the Rockoh T3, Jetrax T6, and Axalara T9. A series of early innovations would also lead to the creation of the Great Disks, Protosteel, the Nuva Cube, the Maxilos robots, Golden Kanohi, the Spear of Fusion, Toa Canisters, and two copies of the Kanohi Olmak.

Raid of Artakha[]

In the aftermath of the Great Disruption, Makuta Kojol was assigned to patrol Artakha, keeping a watchful eye on the inhabitants for several years until he settled into his own affairs, creating flying and marine Rahi to populate the realm. Some time after Kojol's arrival on the island, however, Artakha would forge the Kanohi Avohkii, a Kanohi that granted its bearer Toa-level range and strength of Elemental Light powers. Shortly before the acceleration of the Brotherhood of Makuta's Grand Plan, Kojol would raid Artakha to retrieve the mask. Kojol's strike force sustained damage from the local Crystal Serpents and the island's defensive fortifications. However, the Rahkshi distracted the defenses long enough for the Exo-Toa to deploy, leaving Eritraa and the island's other inhabitants unable to stop the theft of the Kanohi.

After Kojol's raid, Artakha asked that the Order of Mata Nui remove all traces of his realm's existence. The Order complied, commissioning Tobduk to eliminate everyone who knew where the realm was located, including Order members and Kojol himself. The Order also destroyed all existing maps showing Artakha. Meanwhile, the Matoran residents of Artakha destroyed a larger, uninhabited island nearby, along with the land bridge that used to connect them.

With his realm isolated from the rest of the Matoran Universe, Artakha retreated from public life entirely for many centuries, concerning himself exclusively with the internal affairs of governing his island and constructing tools to aid the Matoran and Toa.

Following the universal shockwave caused by the Great Cataclysm, vast regions of the island were damaged, prompting Artakha and his Matoran followers to act quickly to repair the damage.

1,001 years after the Great Cataclysm, the Toa Nuva, upon their completion of the tasks listed in the Preparation Scroll, arrived on Artakha's island and spoke to Artakha from outside the fortress. Artakha gave them some of his Adaptive Armor and teleported them to Karda Nui, where they were to awaken Mata Nui.

Reign of Shadows[]

After Makuta Teridax took control of the Matoran Universe and announced the success of his plan, Artakha was forced to find shelter from the Brotherhood of Makuta armies that razed the Matoran Universe, endeavoring to fortify his realm from invasion. Assaulted by legions of Rahkshi, however, Artakha eventually fell to the Brotherhood of Makuta and the Matoran denizens were captured. With Toa Nuva Lewa arriving too late to save the island, Artakha established telepathic contact with the Toa and instructed him to instead free Tren Krom from his prison, promptly teleporting Lewa away. Artakha then helped Tren Krom, who had assumed Lewa's body, teleport to the Archives.

Upon gaining the opportunity, Artakha himself traveled to Metru Nui, to the Core Processor where Tren Krom, Tuyet and Brutaka were fighting Miserix, Helryx, and Axonn to determine the future of the Great Spirit Robot. Artakha commanded Tren Krom to reverse the body swap he had done with Lewa, restoring both to their proper bodies. By this time, unfortunately, Makuta Teridax interrupted the proceedings, displaying his lack of concern for them and his power by teleporting them to space. They were rescued by Vezon, who brought them to a tower on Bota Magna which served as a Great Being's prison.
