"We are a cursed people, prisoners of greed. Once, we were a proud race of traders and miners. Now, we are but monuments to the sins of one individual. Our flesh became crystal, some of us paralyzed by this change. Many lost their lives to this transformation, some their minds. All were forever stripped of their selves."
―A surviving Crystal Golem to Kripta.

The Crystal Golems are members of an unidentified race transmuted by a glowing silver substance.

History[]

Not many records of these beings exist within the present day. It is believed that they were once the dominant species of a land called Qryztalex, far to the north of Okoto. However, a "floating city" descended upon the land and razed it of its resources. Those that didn't flee were brought aboard the vessel as slaves, and were never seen again. Those that did scattered across the seas, finding themselves on new lands.

One band of escapees found themselves on the island of Okoto. Settling in the Region of Ice, they would carve themselves a new home within one of the many caverns. At some later point in time, the ruler of the people- Isenvokte- stumbled across a pool of glittering silver. Striking a bargain with the avatar of the Silver Lake, the monarch began experimenting with the substance.

Disaster would eventually befall him and his race, though the specifics are unknown. Some say that a reservoir of the substance was accidentally punctured open during a mining operation. Others claim that the king angered the Avatar of the Lake, who responded by flooding the entire city with his essence. Whatever the case may be, the end result is the same; all members of the race were either transformed into crystalline entities or completely destroyed by the argent waves.

Not all of the survivors retained their motor-skills or ability to speak, instead being reduce to muteness and/or "living sculptures". Isenvokte was a member of both camps, locked onto his own throne. Those that retained their motor-skills fled their home, scattering to the winds. Though the natives of Okoto would be said to occasionally run into these individuals, the race as a whole is typically thought as extinct in the present day.

Social Structure and Interactions[]

Although not much is currently known about their society, the fact that they possessed a monarch once implies that they had some form of monarchy. Given Isenvokte's reputation as a ruthless ruler, it may have been more of a dictatorship.
