BIONICLE: Encyclopedia Updated

The Hand of Artakha was an organization dedicated to maintaining peace in the Great Spirit Robot, following its departure from Spherus Magna.

History[]

Formation[]

Created by the Great Beings during the early construction of the Matoran Universe, the Hand of Artakha was a coalition of elite warriors that predated the Toa as an organized entity of peace-keepers. At a time when only the realms of Artakha and Karzahni had been constructed, members of the Hand of Artakha were charged with roaming the individual domes of the Great Spirit Robot to safeguard the Matoran inhabitants of each realm should unforeseen disaster strike.

Serving at the discretion of Artakha, the Hand would later induct Helryx, the first Toa, into their number. During this time, the organization notably established its base of operations on the island of Artakha, a vantage point from which it could easily access many of the northern Domes of the Matoran Universe.

Activity[]

Over the course of its existence, the Hand of Artakha involved itself in a number of peacekeeping endeavors, though its operatives were notably unfettered by the restraints of the Matoran conscience and often achieved their ends through excessively destructive means.

Operatives of the Hand of Artakha were known to have developed the Energy Hound species in secret, based off of blueprints for some of Makuta Antroz's more predatory creations. When Antroz eventually encountered an Energy Hound specimen he immediately blamed Icarax for infringing upon his intellectual property. Denying these allegations, Icarax thus began his historic feud with Antroz over the species, a conflict that eventually ended with the intervention of Miserix and Teridax but left lingering resentment between the pair.

-Failure to stop Mata Nui killing off species

While the Hand of Artakha proved a highly effective force for protecting Matoran, a particular mission to settle discontent between two warring factions of species in the Southern Matoran Universe resulted in considerable damage to environmental dome of the Artidax island and the extinction of the local inhabitants. With the increasing population of Toa operating as a somewhat unified entity, the Hand of Artakha would eventually fall out of favor after just 200 years of service. Eventually disbanding, the members of the organization would travel their separate ways.

Legacy[]

Following the organization's downfall, Toa Helryx would helm the development of the Order of Mata Nui, which filled the vacuum created by the Hand as a covert peace-keeping entity unhindered by the moral obligations of the Toa Code. With the clandestine activities of the organization kept secret from the rest of the Matoran Universe, it was decided that Toa would generally be excluded from membership so as not to violate their right to follow the Toa Code. Under Helryx's leadership, Hydraxon and Axonn would go on to join the Order of Mata Nui, desiring to carry out the will of Mata Nui. The Order of Mata Nui would prove far more successful than its precursor, welcoming seasoned warriors like Brutaka, Botar, and Tobduk among its numbers.

Owing to the destructive nature of the Hand of Artakha's activities, many species of the Southern Islands harbored ill sentiments towards Mata Nui and his chosen champions. As a result, the Hand of Artakha motivated a number of warriors to join the League of Six Kingdoms' ranks 20,000 years later.
