- "He stopped firing and put the scary mask he found on. Once again, the earth began to shake, and thunderclouds formed. Like last time, the ground underneath Keelo began to sink. But this time he got up. He knew what his mask could do now. He looked at Wreshi, and the ground underneath him liquified and he began rapidly sinking."

The Mask of Catastrophes was a powerful and abnormal Kanohi mask. It gave its user the ability to create, manipulate, and disperse a wide variety of geological and meteorological natural disasters.
In addition to being difficult to control, the mask contained an immense amount of energy inside it. This made it both usable by Matoran and capable of unlocking a Matoran's dormant Toa power, transforming them into a Toa. Notably, this happened to Keelo, who then used the mask to conquer and enforce his reign over Powai Nui during the Leskya-Powai War.
History[]
How the Mask of Catastrophes was created is unknown. Its history in the Matoran Universe began with the Great Being Jayniss, who took it with him when he was exiled. During the Wraith Syndicate's their pursuit of him, he abandoned it on Powai Nui, having realized they were after the artifacts he carried. The mask then remained undiscovered for some time.
While helping to colonize Powai Nui, Keelo found the Mask of Catastrophes while being chased by fellow colonists for stealing rations. When he placed it on, a bout of ferocious winds and tremors were summoned, and the mask gave him a vision of a Toa-like figure standing in a destroyed landscape. Later, in the middle of a fight between the island's native Toa and the Leskya Nuian refugees, he put it on again, and was briefly able to direct its power before it overwhelmed him and caused him to fall into Lake Faradi. The mask reacted with the elemental electricity put into the lake by Turaga Maroona and unlocked his dormant Toa power, transforming him into a Toa of Earth, Fire, and Lightning.
Keelo, and with him the Mask of Catastrophes, was later trapped in the Shrine of Salvation Dimension during a duel with Toa Detras.
Example Usage[]
In The Feral Plains/Volume III, Keelo was able to briefly wield the mask, using it to manifest a sinkhole underneath Wreshi, before its power overwhelmed him and he lost control of it.
