The river wasp is a winged, eusocial insect native to the warm climates of Chroros Nui and Yutai Nui. As its name indicates, it is known for living near rivers, usually in large colonies.

History[]
The river wasp was first discovered by early settlers in Ayeg near the Azengu river. Due to the hostility of the colony the settlers were forced to leave the area and find a new place to establish their settlement.
After many years of exploring the continent it seemed as if the wasps were exclusive to the Azengu. However, it was soon discovered that many colonies of river wasps existed near rivers across Zypvera's tropical regions.
Physiology[]
River wasps are built like typical insects, consisting of a head, thorax and abdomen, as well as six legs and a pair of wings. They boast a yellow exoskeleton lined with red stripes to ward of predators. Unlike most insects, the river wasp is equipped with a sharp stinger on the end of its abdomen which allows it to attack its foes.
Powers and abilities[]
Despite their small size, the river wasp can fly extremely quickly. Paired with the ability to fly at high speeds is the insect's remarkable reflexes, which are said to be fifty times more acute than that of a matoran. This is thought to be because of their antennae, which are capable of detecting subtle vibrations in the air.
The stinger present on the end of its abdomen is used to defend itself when threatened. The stingers are capable of delivering a painful sting to the recipient, courtesy of the wasp's venom.

River wasps are very social creatures, which is evident due to the large nests they construct near rivers. Their social behaviour is notable in the way they communicate with one another and their typical colony size, which ranges from 10,000 to 50,000 individuals. It is due to this behaviour that the insect is often considered intelligent by scientists, who even state that large enough river wasp colonies possess a collective intelligence that allows them to function very effectively as a community. This collective intelligence allows a colony to search for food, ward off predators and adapt to sudden adverse changes in their environment much more easily than most insect colonies.
When threatened or in search of food, the river wasps swarm the intended target, bombarding it with stings until it is either no longer able to move or until it flees. The wasps, however, are very persistent and will usually try to prevent the latter from occurring.
