Vanak was an Av-Matoran who lived in Karda Nui.
Vanak was created by the Great Beings to aid in the construction of the Great Spirit Mata Nui. Vanak and the other Av-Matoran left their homeland under the Southern Continent to colonize Karda Nui. The Av-Matoran returned to their homeland in the caves below the Southern Continent before the awakening of Mata Nui.
During the Great Cataclysm, the Av-Matoran homeland was damaged by the resulting earthquake and part of it fell into Karda Nui. This caused the Stalactite Villages to form and Vanak took up residence in one of the villages for more than a thousand years, adapting to the hardships that the new lifestyle presented.
Vanak acted a scout for his village and was Raniza's closest friend. However, Raniza turned on him when he was turned into a Shadow Matoran by Makuta Verahk. Vanak was able to escape them and later met up with Toa Hydros.
He helped the others in trying to reverse what happened to Hydros. During a fight with the Shadow Matoran Xakon, Vanak was wounded. He transformed into a Bohrok Tahnok soon after, and was transported to the Bohrok nests beneath Mata Nui.
He is currently asleep along with the rest of the Bohrok.
Abilities & Traits
As a Matoran, Vanak was very brave, willing to stand up to virtually anyone when those he cared about were in danger. He was also a brilliant strategist.
Like all Av-Matoran, Vanak could access small portions of his elemental light powers. This means he could change his body colors, as well as shoot light bolts. When linked with Hydros he could transform himself and Hydros into pure light energy (similar to Umbra's power). He also acted as a living source of light energy for Hydros' Midak Skyblaster.
As a Bohrok Tahnok, he possesses limited power over the Element of Fire.
Mask & Tools
Vanak wore a powerless Huna. His weapons were two Power Swords that could focus his light powers. He also had a rocket booster on his back.
As Tahnok, he wields twin Fire Shields.
